About Cattywompass

Welcome to my cattywompass life! I’m a big gal with a big personality, a lot of love to give, many interests, amazing friends and a family I love. I have a full life and keep pushing my pen to the side, even though it’s been calling to me for years.

I’m also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in aging, dementia and end-of-life care. As a creative and advocate, I designed and started the first free-standing adult day program for people with dementia in our community, becoming a small business entrepreneur simultaneously. Life in my world gets pretty damn heavy at times, but I’ve learned a lot, especially not taking things for granted.

In 2019 my life changed dramatically when I was hit while driving home from work, sustaining a concussion. Beginning the next morning, when I discovered that I had lost a great deal of my speech, balance and visual focus life has been extra cattywompass. Now diagnosed with “Post Concussion Syndrome,” at mid-life,  and in the midst of a global pandemic, I’m learning to build a new life for myself.

It’s time to pick up my pen, share my journey and embrace the mess that is my cattywompass life! Thanks for visiting and I hope you find something here that serves you!

A Valentine to Myself

  • Body Consciousness

Dear Body, I owe you an apology. I have not treated you well. I have abused you for my own ends, to get where I wanted to be in the moment. I have neglected your routine maintenance over and over and over again. I have not defended you. When others told me I was fat and therefore ugly or less […]

…when it came to being she said be tender and tough at once you need to be vulnerable to live fully but rough enough to survive it all… -Rupi Kaur, The Sun and Her Flowers I have not published a blog post since mid-August. I have been writing, but I have not been able to put anything together I felt […]

Own that Ass

  • Body Consciousness

“If you own the story, you can write the ending. If you deny the story, the story owns you.“ Brene Brown, Rising Strong A couple of years ago I had some boudoir photos taken. I was at a place in brain injury recovery where getting dressed and to rehab was the basic extent of my life. I was living in […]

Fat Is Not a Feeling

  • Body Consciousness

“Fat is not a feeling.” Sit with that statement for just a moment. If you find this to be an obvious, matter of fact statement, then good for you. If you experience revelation, enlightenment, or knowing deep in your bones when you read this, you are my people. Recently, while listening to my favorite podcast, Hear to Slay hosted by […]
