About Cattywompass

Welcome to my cattywompass life! I’m a big gal with a big personality, a lot of love to give, many interests, amazing friends and a family I love. I have a full life and keep pushing my pen to the side, even though it’s been calling to me for years.

I’m also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in aging, dementia and end-of-life care. As a creative and advocate, I designed and started the first free-standing adult day program for people with dementia in our community, becoming a small business entrepreneur simultaneously. Life in my world gets pretty damn heavy at times, but I’ve learned a lot, especially not taking things for granted.

In 2019 my life changed dramatically when I was hit while driving home from work, sustaining a concussion. Beginning the next morning, when I discovered that I had lost a great deal of my speech, balance and visual focus life has been extra cattywompass. Now diagnosed with “Post Concussion Syndrome,” at mid-life,  and in the midst of a global pandemic, I’m learning to build a new life for myself.

It’s time to pick up my pen, share my journey and embrace the mess that is my cattywompass life! Thanks for visiting and I hope you find something here that serves you!

Post Pandemic Daydream (II)

  • Uncategorized

Slowly, slowly, I feel myself returning the world. Not physically. Not yet. The post-pandemic world is not yet upon us. But in my mind, and maybe, just maybe, there are tiny green tendrils of hope sprouting underground in my heart. For the first time in years I can listen to and watch the news without tenseness humming through my body. […]

Post Pandemic Daydream

  • Uncategorized

I am hugging a friend. We are standing in the driveway, our arms about each other’s necks, laughing, hugging so tightly, overwhelmed with emotion. This is the first time we have hugged in over a year, and we are filled with love, joy and relief. We are not wearing masks. As I emerged from this daydreamed scene I found wet […]

Healing is an Action Verb

  • Concussion

This post was written for publication in February of 2021. However, it had to be help until our lawsuit was settled. The number of journal entries I have opened with the words “healing is hard” are countless. Today is another one of those. This week I learned I am to receive a “Lifetime Achievement Award” for community work. At the […]

Battery Life

  • Concussion

My phone battery is low. I plug it in. It recharges. As soon as I start to use it again the battery indicator light starts to drop like a rock. It reaches a point where it’s just best to keep it plugged in all the time because it just can’t hold a charge. Pretty soon, it’s clear that a new […]
